Amal Lad has made a career out of exploring the intersection between art and medicine. His ability to reveal the connection between music and wellbeing has been recognised by the BBC and TEDxNHS, as well as countless listeners around the globe.
Amal released his debut EP ‘Complex Simplicities’ in 2012 and was featured by Bobby Friction on BBC Introducing. Praised for its impressive guitar performances, the EP showcased the emotionally compelling style that would come to define Amal’s sound. He followed this up by branching out into composing for film and spoken word, collaborating with artists from cultures around the world to celebrate a shared humanity. He also began an in-depth study of music as a tool for therapy, which started when one of his compositions was selected for ‘The Rhapsody Project,’ an interactive arts intervention for the benefit of patients at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital. Other projects included ‘Healing Eyes of The World,’ and ‘Hearing Tumours,’ each of which shined a light on unique solutions to age-old medical problems.
In 2018, Amal reached his biggest audience yet when he was invited to speak on the TEDxNHS stage. His performance, titled ‘If You Have a Heart, You’re Making Beats,’ featured his own heartbeat and was his finest statement on the connection between music and health yet.
His music is influenced by legends including Carlos Santana, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page as well as Eastern sounds from AR Rahman, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Ravi Shankar.
Currently, Amal is preparing the release of new experimental music, while continuing his work in medicine. He is as passionate as ever about his work and looking forward to finding new ways to benefit humanity.
